My Work as a Pianist for Funerals
My name is Eugene Portman and I am a pianist who provides music for wakes and funerals throughout Sussex and other areas of the UK. I have played for quite a number of funeral services, but I usually play for the gathering after the funeral.
After the Funeral
It is common practice to host a gathering after the funeral for family and friends. This can be held either at the home of the family, or at a suitable venue such as a hotel, public house or restaurant.
There is nothing worse than when people come from the funeral service and enter a silent and austere venue. My job is to create a little bit of atmosphere with my music and make things a little bit more cheerful in what is otherwise a very sad occasion. I can help make this difficult time a lot easier for you by providing music that is uplifting and capable of inducing conversation. Having live music in the background does help people to talk and gives the gathering a focal point.
A Celebration of a Persons Life
The gathering enables family and friends to share fond memories of the deceased, and it need not be a sombre event. This part of the day should be a celebration of a persons life.
Music for the Service.
So far I’ve talked mostly about the gathering after the funeral but I can also provide music for the service. This can either be classical or songs of a more popular nature. It only takes me about 15 minutes to set up my digital piano so I can easily travel from the service and set up in another location for the drinks afterwards. The Options Available.
I provide music for funerals throughout Sussex and the rest of the UK. If you are thinking of having music at your funeral then I can provide either solo piano or this can be augmented to include either bass or vocals. You may want to go a step further and either have a trio (piano, bass and vocals or piano, bass and drums) or even a quartet (piano, bass, drums and vocals).
